What's on the quote

Everything a panel beating quote needs

Laid out like the quotes PanelDesk shops send every day.

  • Lines the way you price

Parts, labour, strip and assemble, paint and outwork on each line, at a fixed price or by the hour at your own rates, plus sundries, paint materials and towing.

  • VAT done right

Add your VAT number and the quote shows the total before VAT, the VAT and the total with VAT. No VAT number, no VAT.

  • Car and insurance details

Registration, make and model, VIN, colour and odometer, and the insurer, claim number, assessor and excess for insurance work.

  • The terms the law asks for

How long the quote is valid, any fee for the quote, no extra cost without the customer's OK, when to collect, storage, and the 3-month parts warranty.

  • A space for the customer to approve

Name, signature and date, so you have the customer's go-ahead in writing before the work starts.

  • Your logo and numbering

Your logo, details and quote numbers are remembered on your device, so the next quote takes a minute.

Quotes your customers accept online

In PanelDesk you build quotes with your own rates and line types, send them by email or WhatsApp, see when the customer opened them, and an accepted quote becomes the job card, then the invoice, without retyping.

The rules in plain words

What the Consumer Protection Act asks of a repair quote

The template follows these for you. They protect your shop in a dispute as much as they protect the customer.

  • Get approval before you start

You may not charge for repairs unless the customer approved your quote, or declined one and told you to go ahead, or set a maximum amount you may spend.

  • Say what it costs to quote

If you charge for the quote itself, including stripping a car to find the damage, tell the customer the fee and get their OK before you start. Otherwise you can't charge it.

  • Never go over the quote without asking

Found more damage, or a part costs more? Tell the customer the extra cost and wait for them to agree before you carry on.

  • Put four things on every quote

A breakdown and the total, what will be repaired, how long the quote is valid, and how long the customer has to collect the car and what happens if they don't.

  • Warranty on parts and labour

Every new or reconditioned part you fit, and the labour to fit it, carries a warranty of at least 3 months. You can give more, never less.

  • Show prices with VAT

If you're registered for VAT, a quoted price must include VAT, or show the price before VAT, the VAT and the total just as clearly.
